One of my greatest gifts is also a constant source of frustration for me, analyzing everything! This has served me extremely well throughout my career. Give me a problem (I see it as a challenge) and I will get to the root of it, unravel it and set it free.
When it comes to people, not so much. People are different. They are complex, they are opinionated. They are loving and giving. They are wounded and self entitled. They are adults, but sometimes speaking to you from their 3-year-old selves. They are children, but perhaps wise beyond their years. You just never know what you’re getting. Did you hit a nerve? Did you trigger a past wound?
I received some great advice years ago from a “friend” (soon to be ex-husband), “…don’t try to figure me out!”. Of course, I didn’t see it for exactly what it was at the time, but because hindsight is 20/20, I look back and see that it was brilliant! It was exactly what I needed to hear.
Of course, I still try to figure everything out much to my detriment. But not people so much any more. There are too many variables.
The main one being there are 2 sides to every story. Like Hillary and Trump…. some stories can’t be discussed in a manor in which you can find a happy medium.
When I woke up this morning, I got this amazing message in my email.
The next time someone upsets you, think, “Thanks for pointing out that I’ve begun depending on you. Time I lose the expectations.”
And the next time someone doesn’t take your view into account, think, “That’s okay, I was once like that.”
And if someone steals from you, think, “It was nothing, my supply is the Universe.”
Or lies to you, think, “I’m sorry you feel that need.”
Violates you, “All for my growth and glory.”
Is rude to you, “Cheer up, dear soul, it’ll be okay.”
Judges you, “Thanks for sharing your truth.”
Drives by you like a bat out of hell, “Be careful, my friend. I love you.”
And the next time someone greets you with a smile, smile back, like you’re sharing a secret.
